Concept: Patchwork Planet is an original concept developed by Aliza that introduces children ages five to ten to different cultures through interactive games, recipes, and videos. Some shorter videos will play out as an animated short form “vlog” and some longer videos will play as longer form episodes as a series.
Series Logline: Follow six students from Mr. Burton’s second grade class as they explore their similarities and differences of their cultures both in their classroom and at home. Each episode follows one of the students as they face a problem that is unique to their culture but may have similarities to other classmates.
Spec Episode Logline: Chani has to face her first day at a new school but gets frustrated when no one can say her name properly. Through a school assignment and recess, she learns that there is power to a name.
Lesson Breakdown: This spec episode focuses on the familiar difficulty that many different people of diverse cultures must face: Unique names. Chani has a name that is hard to pronounce, Teddy talks about how he had to have an “American” name, and the class learns more about the meanings behind their names. This episode’s goal is to expose children viewers to diverse names and help teach that it is important to respect unique names instead of making them easier for themselves.
